M. M. Adjarian is a critic, award-winning essayist + occasional poet who has published in such journals as the Baltimore Review, Verdad, South 85, Grub Street, Gravel, Eclectica, Crack the Spine, The London Reader, Poetry Flash + the North Dakota Quarterly. Her articles + reviews have appeared in Tribeza-Austin, Arts + Culture Texas, Bitch, Kirkus Reviews, Library Journal + the Dallas Voice.

She holds a BA in comparative literature from the University of California + a PhD in the same field from the University of Michigan. Her creative writing mentors + teachers have included PEN Oakland award-winning memoirist + acclaimed Bay Area poet Lucille Lang Day, novelist + Northwestern University senior writing lecturer, Brian Bouldrey + National Book Award longlist nominee Natalie Hodges. Currently, she is revising a non-fiction manuscript with distinguished indie author/editor, Hillary Leftwich, + working on her first collection of poetry.

As a scholar of twentieth century women’s fiction + non-fiction,she has produced studies for a academic journals including College Literature + Frontiers: A Journal of Women’s Studies. In 2004, she published a book of criticism titled Allegories of Desire: Body Nation + Empire in Modern Caribbean Literature by Women (Praeger).

Ms. Adjarian has also taught courses in the personal essay through the Writers League of Texas. An avid amateur photographer, she enjoys shooting film with vintage + toy cameras + experimenting with the latest Hipstamatic camera lenses for her iPhone.
